Growing Need to Prevent Malicious Attacks to Up Adoption of Data Protection & Recovery Solutions

Increasing adoption of various enterprise software applications, such as email, enterprise resource planning (ERP), and customer relationship management (CRM), by organizations results in a massive increase in data volumes.

Data migration, resulting from ever-growing digital transformation, and increasing adoption of cloud services have led to threats such as unsanctioned processing of data and data loss. Additionally, rising incidence of unauthorised access of information, cyber-attacks, and ransomware has emphasized the demand for data protection and recovery solutions.

Data Availability and Protection Software

In August 2017, IBM launched a new easy-to-use data protection software called “IBM Spectrum Protect”. This software is available as a standalone solution, which can be installed into virtual environments and integrated with IBM’s Spectrum Protect Software.

This software is useful for large enterprises for data protection and availability requirements. Its hybrid cloud competence offers speedy migration of data from on-premises, back-end storage to private or public clouds.

To achieve availability, the software uses a snapshot technology for quick backup, recovery, and data management. This product is exclusively designed for virtual machines (VM) as well as application administrators. Additionally, it provides data clone function to support and automate DevOps workflows.

Protection against Malware & Targeted Attacks

Symantec’s malware prevention technology is designed for on-premise infrastructure. This software protects against phishing, malware, and targeted attacks, thereby preventing data loss.

This tool can be used in hosting mode on a VMware virtualization platform for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, 2010, and 2013. This Brightmail technology offers accurate protection by blocking spam at a rate of 99.9%.

Market Overview

According to Grand View Research, Inc., the global data protection and recovery market is set to achieve around USD 14.1 billion by 2025. Rapidly increasing organizational data and rising incidence of cyberattacks can boost demand for data backup, recovery, and protection services. The cloud platform is predicted to grow at the highest rate owing to rising use of cloud-based disaster backup and recovery services.

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) formed the fastest growing segment. The healthcare sector is also projected to make significant use of security solutions to protect patient records and maintain privacy.

North America captured a major market share in 2016. Asia Pacific, on the other hand, is projected to register the highest CAGR due to growing adoption of hosted and managed services in this region.

Prominent players operating in the market include Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, Commvault, IBM Corporation, Veritas Technologies LLC, and EMC Corporation.
