Growing Demand for Bluetooth Beacons for Improved Proximity-based Marketing

Bluetooth beacons are a form of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices that let Bluetooth devices transmit or receive smaller volumes of data within a short distance. In 2014, Apple was the first to introduced a protocol called ‘iBeacon’, which is compatible with iPads and iPhones, and some Android phones as well.

BLE is perfect for small periodic transmission of data required within a proximity. It provides proximity-based marketing solutions, which is beneficial for various industries.

For example, in the retail industry, beacons are extensively used for personalized marketing, which allows customers to receive tips and deals while shopping. Additionally, it is used for sending promotional messages to customers to increase sales.

Recently “BeaconGrid” integrated beacon technology with “Alexa” to create a system for managing employees and valuable assets, which is much needed in a large workplace.

Scalable IOT Solutions

In April 2017, Bluevision and Siemens AG jointly launched Siemens “MindSphere”, which is a cloud-based open IoT operating system. Organizations and manufacturing companies can subscribe to Bluevision’s location-based solution as well as condition monitoring solutions using the Bluezone app, which runs on MindSphere.

The open industrial IoT operating system enables plug-and-play connectivity and multiple deployment options. Additionally, it provides an “app-like marketplace” for connecting top Industrial IoT (IIoT) technology providers, which helps organizations link their physical infrastructure with the digital world.

In April 2017, Bluevision launched a device agnostic and monitoring facility used for detecting equipment breakdown by applying artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. It tracks transitions of equipment using BLE, WiFi gateways, and sensor beacons as well as Bluezone.

Market Overview

According to Grand View Research, Inc., the global Bluetooth beacons market is set to achieve around USD 58.7 billion by 2025. Increasing integration of beacons in vending machines, cameras, point of sale (POS) devices, and LED lighting is expected to up demand for the product in the market.

iBeacon has been dominating the market by technology. However, other open source technologies such as Google’s “Eddystone” is also estimated to boost demand for Android-based proximity solutions.

Key companies operating in the market include Bluvision, Inc.; Estimote, Inc.; Kontakt.io; Accent Advanced Systems, SLU; and Radius Networks, Inc.
